Devotion

Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you. (John 1: 48)

In isiZulu, a dialect of Bantu, an African language, there is an expression – “I see you.”  These three words are rich in meaning and have a depth far greater than the physical aspect of sight.  When one Zulu says to another, “I see you,” he is saying, “I see the person you are.  I see your humanity; I see your morality; I see you commitment to justice.”

Adonai Yeshua, the Lord Jesus, saw Nathaniel, as he was sitting under the fig tree, in the town of Bethsaida, in the Galilee. As Nathaniel arose and walked towards Him, Adonai Yeshua commented, Here is a true Israelite; no deceit is in him. When Nathaniel asked how He knew him, Adonai Yeshua responded, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.

Yahweh (God) seesus no matter where we are.  But His seeing us is so much more than merely the physical act of observing; His seeing is deep into our souls, the essence of who we are.  There is nothing we can hide from our Lord and Messiah; He knows everything there is to know about us, past, present and future.

David said it well, in Psalm 139, when he declared, Lord, You have searched me and known me.  And this is true for all of us – no matter where we are, He seesus.  Rather than trying to hide from Him, let us continually turn to Him and plead with Him: Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns.  See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.

Abba B’Shamayim, Father in Heaven, You SEEus for whom we are - each one of your children.  I sincerely pray you clean our hearts of any and all stains which infect us, through our sinful natures.  Help us walk you Path with integrity, humility and righteousness.  B’Shem Adonai Yeshua Moshichainu, Amain, in the Name of the Lord Jesus, our Saviour, Amen.
